Frequently Asked Questions

What is BEMER Therapy?
BEMER stands for Bio-Electro-Magnetic-Energy-Regulation. It is an FDA-registered medical device that produces a pulsed electromagnetic field that increases microcirculation in healthy tissues. Microcirculation is the circulation of blood in the smallest blood vessels which is where the exchange of nutrients (like oxygen) and cellular waste (like carbon dioxide and lactic acid) occurs. Oxygen provides energy to the body's cells in order to keep the body functioning. The production of this energy also creates waste which needs to be transported back into the blood so it can be filtered out of the body. In essence, BEMER helps the body do what it already does, naturally.

What are the benefits of BEMER Therapy?
The improvement in microcirculation increases the oxygen available to the tissues which prepares the muscles for exercise and optimizes performance. It also promotes relaxation, recovery, and regeneration which reduces the risk of injury.  Field observation has shown the improvement in microcirculation is sustained for 12-15 hours following a session which means the effects are ongoing long after exercise. It is also an FEI approved supportive therapy making it a great way to start and/or end a show day! The effects of BEMER are cumulative so it is more effective with regular use and optimizes your horses overall health. For a full list of positive effects, visit BEMER's FAQ 's on their website.

Who benefits from BEMER therapy?
All horses can benefit from BEMER therapy! Horses that are retired or used for pleasure can benefit just as much as those in regular training or competing at high levels. It is also beneficial for horses recovering from an injury or are battling the effects of aging, like arthritis. It can also be used on horses of all sizes, from minis to drafts!

Why do you combine Bodywork and BEMER therapy?

In my experience with my own horses and client's horses, I have seen an improvement in outcome when these two services are combined. Increasing the circulation with the BEMER blanket and cuffs helps to prepare the muscles and connective tissue for bodywork, aids in relaxation for the session, and improves recovery time following bodywork.

What are the benefits of bodywork?

Increases Range of Motion

Improves Performance

Prevents Injury and Soreness

Reduces Pain

Decreases Recovery Time

Helps Protect Joints

Improves Digestion

Why do your bundles expire after a certain number of weeks or months?
My bundles expire within a certain timeframe in order to provide the best care possible for you and/or your horse. In traditional outpatient physical therapy, patients are seen 1-3x/wk for 4-12 weeks to facilitate the best patient outcomes for return to function. In my practice, my goal is to see human patients 1-2x/wk for 4-12 weeks and provide an at home exercise program to enhance recovery and facilitate independence with the management of your symptoms.
The same is true for our equine partners. While they may not need a massage on a weekly basis, it is beneficial to keep them on a consistent routine to ensure their bodies are remaining as healthy as possible. We ask a lot of our horses, especially in higher level competition, and consistent bodywork can also help prevent overuse injuries over time.

What areas do you service and how far do you travel?
